Back to EMDR Basic Training! The path to being an EMDR Consultant

Guess what I did this weekend? I went back to EMDR Basic Training! Why you ask? I am in the process of becoming an EMDRIA Consultant. And one of the requirements is retaking EMDR Basic Training. So that is what I am doing!

EMDR Consultants go back to Basic Training

I am, as of January 2021 an EMDRIA Consultant in Training (CIT). What that means if I help other clinicians learn more about EMDR Therapy or work towards EMDRIA Certification.

Why is this so important to me? Because we can never have enough well trained EMDR therapists and I love consulting with other clinicians

What EMDR training company am I using?

For my returning to EMDR Basic Training I am going through EMDR Professional Training. These folks do things a little different than the other training companies. They offer Basic Training over a 3 sets of 3 day courses (Friday through Sunday) and include consultation.

When I did my original training through EMDR Institute the structure was 2 sets of 3 day courses but the required 10 hours of consultation was acquired outside of training and at an additional cost. Something cool about this company is it is founded by Francine Shapiro, the originator and developer of EMDR. I very much enjoyed my experience with EMDR Institute as well but the 10 hours of consultation was not as useful as I would have liked.

Fast forward to 2021… I have become certified in EMDR (an additional 20 hours of consultation, lots of CEUs and other requirements) and am on the path to become an EMDR Consultant.

So what does that mean? I help clinicians that have finished Basic Training (including their 10 hours of consultation) keep working towards their EMDR goals. That may mean a one time case consultation. Or a clinician looking to become and EMDRIA Certified EMDR Therapist. As of right now I can offer 15 or the 20 required hours of consultation for certification. When I complete my consultant training I can do all 20! Look here for more info!

I have other video about EMDR equipment such as Light Bar, Tappers, Artistic Flow, and how to set visual targets for online EMDR sessions.
